Tec-Tec — dinner on the sand at Anse Louis

The signature restaurant of Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas on the west coast of Mahé, where Creole cooking meets Asian and Indian flavours and your table can be set right on the sand at the water's edge.

Where it is and what it's known for

Tec-Tec belongs to the Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas resort at Anse Louis, on the west coast of Mahé — about twenty minutes from the international airport and around half an hour from Victoria. The setting is intimate: a sheltered bay, granite boulders and palms along the shore, and a terrace that looks straight out at the sunset over the ocean.

The interiors were designed by Bill Bensley, the architect behind hotels across Asia. His signature shows in the details: natural materials, spaces that open towards the ocean, and a considered transition between the dining room and the open terrace.

There are two ways to sit. Inside, under cover, with soft lighting and shade. Or outside on the soft sand, where tables are set almost at the waterline — which is what most people come here for.

Local ceviche

Freshly caught red soldierfish cured in coconut milk with fresh chilli. A light way to start dinner, and probably the most Seychellois dish on the menu.

Creole curry

A coconut stew of your choosing — chicken, seafood, fish or vegetables. Served with steamed basmati rice and a selection of local chutneys.

From the grill

For those who would rather skip the fish: premium Angus beef tenderloin or lamb chops cooked over open flame.

Who it suits

Tec-Tec works for a quiet dinner for two, a family evening, or a day when you want to combine the beach with good food without driving across the island. The mood is closer to an unhurried resort restaurant than to a busy place in town.

Bear in mind that the restaurant sits within the resort, so outside guests should check access in advance and book a table — especially for sunset, when seats by the water are at their scarcest.

A tip from Seyfinity: come for sunset. Anse Louis faces west, so the sun goes down directly in front of you — the best time both for dinner and for photographs.
